Panels, inverters and eligibility: what to ask for

Ask for exact module and inverter models plus documentary compliance for your installation route. DCR and ALMM are separate checks. A brand name, sales badge or historic list screenshot cannot establish that the proposed equipment meets the rules applicable to your installation and date.

  2. ALMM: check the applicable list and notice
  3. Look beyond the module brand

Takeaway: Keep the evidence attached to the exact equipment you receive.

DCR: where modules and cells are made

For the relevant residential CFA, Domestic Content Requirement concerns modules manufactured in India using domestically manufactured cells. Ask the vendor what records establish this for the supplied equipment. Do not substitute a broad ‘assembled in India’ claim for the scheme requirement.

ALMM: check the applicable list and notice

MNRE List-I covers modules and List-II covers cells. Lists, commencement dates and transition exceptions change. Check the current official page, exact model/manufacturer and notices relevant to the installation; do not assume one manufacturer's listing covers every model or every date.

Look beyond the module brand

The inverter, mounting system, wiring, protective devices, earthing and workmanship matter together. Request datasheets and a qualified design, then retain serial numbers and commissioning records at handover. Any equipment substitution should be documented and checked before acceptance.

Quick answers

What is the difference between on-grid, off-grid and hybrid solar?

An on-grid (grid-tied) system works with your DISCOM connection and can export surplus electricity under the applicable metering rules; a normal grid-tied inverter shuts down during a power cut for safety. An off-grid system runs from batteries without the grid. A hybrid system combines a grid connection with battery backup. Residential CFA under PM Surya Ghar is for grid-connected installations; a grid-connected system with battery storage is reported eligible, while an off-grid system is not on this route. The system-type guide compares the three options.

A common question

Does a long panel warranty cover the whole installation?

No. Product, performance, inverter and workmanship terms are separate. Read exclusions and service costs for each.
